What do I do if my child cries when being dropped off?

This is very normal but it helps the child if you do not act concerned or anxious yourself. Please help them into their shoes, say goodbye and leave them with the educator as quickly as possible. Most children stop crying quickly and can be redirected if the parent leaves. If the child cannot be calmed, and is still having a hard time, the educator will call you. But rest assured your child is probably playing before you have reached your vehicle.

My child is 2 years old until October; can they still start in September?

No, in order to attend Les Petits Pieds Preschool children must be 3 years old, but in order to hold their spot you must still pay for the months between September and your child’s birthday. If you do not wish to do this, you may go on the wait list and hope to get in later.

Do the educators only speak French to my child? What if they don’t understand?

Yes, to a point. The educator will only speak English in the class if there is a dangerous situation that needs to be understood immediately and the child is not proficient in French yet. The educators use gestures, pictures/images and songs to help your child begin to understand French. Children are like sponges, they are young enough that their brain will slowly start absorbing another language in the most natural way, being surrounded by it.

What do they do in school?

The routine of the class can vary but an average day looks like this …

  • Greetings
  • Free Play
  • Circle Time
  • Snack
  • Workshop
  • Craft
  • Story Time
  • Home/Pick-Up Time

Does my child need to be potty trained? What happens if he/she has an accident?

Yes, your child does need to be potty trained; our educators are not allowed to accompany your child into the bathroom stall. Your child must be proficient enough to use the toilet from getting pants up and down to wiping. The educators will always do one bathroom break where they will take all the children to the washroom during their class time. Please pack a change of clothes for your child in case of an accident, in which case your child will change themselves. If this is not possible the educator will call you to pick-up/help your child.

Why do I have to give a fundraising cheque?

The reason behind the fundraising cheque is we are a non-profit organization with very little outside funding, that money will go towards smaller things like classroom furniture or supplies or even bigger things like a playground. We offer other opportunities to help fundraise like Mabel’s Labels, our Spring Raffle and Fall Fundraiser. We will give back your cheque at the end of the year if you participate in any of these things, helping out the longevity of our preschool.
